How baking soda for heartburn works

Baking soda works to eliminate many problems such as smells out of your refrigerator, scratches, pet odors and much more including heartburn.

When I found out about this remedy I immediately wondered-- Is this safe to drink?

To bring some relief to you, YES, this is safe to drink when mixed properly.

The thing about baking soda is that it is effective at neutralizing many things such as odors. Which is how it is also so effective for heartburn. Baking soda neutralizes the acid therefore eliminating the effects of heartburn.

Baking soda works just as an antacid would. It tackles the same 4 ailments:

* Acid Indigestion

* Heartburn

* Sour Stomach

* Upset Stomach Associated With These Symptoms

While baking soda and antacids have 2 different active ingredients they both serve the same purpose-- neutralizing acid.

Is it safe and effective?

Yes, as mentioned above when used/ drunk properly baking soda is safe. It is also effective in eliminating your heartburn as well BUT just as with antacids this acid reflux remedy should only be used short term.

This remedy is best when used as relief from occasional heartburn (just as antacids should be used).

This is because the more you use them to bring yourself relief, the more it takes to bring that relief. For example, you started out taking 1 every time you got heartburn.

You begin getting heartburn more often (more than twice a week). Again you take another antacid (baking soda drink). Eventually you notice that you have to take 2 in order to control the heartburn and so on.

I've seen this happen first-hand. What one doesn't realize is that long term effects of this can cause further problems such as ulcerations, narrowing of the esophagus, and it can even cause precancerous conditions.

It even will tell you on both antacids and baking soda-- Do not use the maximum dosage for more than 2 weeks.

**If you have heartburn more than once or twice a week, it may be due to an underlying condition known as Gerd (Acid Reflux).

If you are unsure consult with your doctor and explain any and all symptoms. Unsure of the symptoms associated with Gerd-- visit Acid Reflux Symptoms.**

How to make the baking soda drink mixture

**Again, this is best when used as a remedy for occasional heartburn.**

A few warnings: before drinking make sure that all the powder is completely dissolved. Do not take this if you are full from food and drink. Also, if you have stomach pain after drinking contact your doctor.

Do not use more than recommended dosage for more than 2 weeks and do not take more of the following amounts in a 24 hour period (seven 1/2 teaspoons and three 1/2 teaspoons if over 60 years of age).

Add a 1/2 a teaspoon to 1/2 a glass of water (4 fl oz) every 2 hours, or as directed by your physician.
